On November 25, 2005, the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai) granted three awards to companies that have shown leadership in the important area of corporate social responsibility or CSR. While CSR means different things to different companies, it can be broadly defined as the concept that corporations should voluntarily commit to ethical, responsible business practices, reflecting the interests of all stakeholders in the company's policies and actions. American companies have been at the forefront of the global CSR movement and have taken a leadership position in brining those international practices to China.
