The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai presents its 4th Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Conference and Awards on October 30, 2008. This full day event aims to highlight critical aspects for initiating, implementing and communicating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) issues effectively. Corporate executives, NGO representatives and academics will gain insights on how leading companies are driving their CSR initiatives forward.

Speakers include Shirley Yu Tsui, IBM’s vice president of strategy & business development for Greater China, who will discuss the role corporate citizenship plays in the development of global strategy at a major corporation, and the World Bank’s Chief Economist in China, David Dollar, who will look at the social responsibility of businesses – both domestic and foreign-invested enterprises – in a developing economy.

Interactive workshops will offer practical advice on a range of pertinent issues:

- How to construct a company’s CSR roadmap

- Sustainable development from the perspective of Chinese state-owned enterprises

- Perspectives on protecting a company from supply chain risks

- Creating “a greener office in 30 minutes” with Shanghai Roots & Shoots


Valuable perspectives will be gained from MOFCOM’s first-ever CSR guidelines published for multinationals operating in China while the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation will provide updates on post-quake recovery projects in Sichuan Province.

AmCham Shanghai is also delighted to present the 2008 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards. The awards showcase organizations that are at the forefront in setting the standard for world class corporate citizenship. By drawing attention to these organizations, the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and its Corporate Social Responsibility Committee wish to acknowledge these companies’ efforts, as well as to encourage and provide models for other organizations to look to for their own CSR efforts.
